Jaime Munguia fights John Ryder in a super middleweight bout January 27 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
"See you in Phoenix, close out 2023 on the right foot, and start 2024 off on the right foot," said Munguia, confirming the show. "Pure Team Munguia!"
Ryder also said he was "pleased" that the Munguia fight "is happening."
He added: "January 27 [in] Pheonix — it all goes down."
The implications in this bout are clear as Munguia is the No.1 contender in the WBO's 168-pound rankings.
With Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez reigning over the super middleweight division with all four of the major world title belts, then Munguia — should he defeat Ryder, who faced Canelo last year — could find himself in the Canelo conversation in 2024.
ProBox TV recently reported that our sources out of Mexico indicated that Canelo was having secret talks with Munguia regarding a bout.
Munguia, 27, last fought in May against Sergiy Derevyanchenko — winning an exciting and competitive unanimous decision. Ryder, 35, hasn't fought since losing to Canelo in May.
An undercard will fill up in due course.Tthe Munguia-Ryder event will air on DAZN.
